Kentuck Announces July Exhibit

NORTHPORT – Kentuck presents Art Dance an exhibit featuring works by photographer Alice Wilson.  The photographic series captures two dozen images of dancers in motion captured by Wilson over the past seventeen years.  An opening reception will be held at the Kentuck Gallery Thursday July 7 from 5-9 p.m.

Wilson received her BA Degree in Studio Art & Music from the University of Alabama in 1987.  For many years, Wilson worked for the University of Alabama as a Staff Photographer.  She recently opened Alice Wilson Photography & Digital Imaging, Inc. in downtown Tuscaloosa.

When asked to reflect on the body of work Wilson states, “A one word title or sentence does not give the subject matter justice.  However, a few words can Motion, Emotion, Admiration, Angelic, Refined, Exquisite, Mystical, Abstract, Puzzling, Profound.”

Although Wilson still enjoys the commercial work, she feels the opening of her gallery has led to a new journey of artistic exploration and self-expression that allows her to incorporate more of her art into her work. "Photography has given me a place to reside in peace, animation and explore roads I've not had time to travel for a long time.

A special reception and opportunity to meet Wilson will be held in conjunction with Art Night, July 7 from 5 to 9 p.m.  Art Night is the first Thursday of each month and celebrates the opening of all exhibits in downtown Northport galleries.  Kentuck studio artists also host their monthly Open Studios for visitors to see works in progress, meet the artists and see the actual workspaces where the artists apply materials, design, technique and equipment to the creative process.  Art Night is free and open to the public.

Kentuck’s Gallery and Kentuck Gallery Shop is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  For additional information call (205) 758-1257, or visit www.kentuck.org.
