Which came first:
the chicken of quality of life, or the egg of economic
development? Whichever's on first, the two are inseparable, and
the arts significantly contribute to quality of life in a
community. But when the economy's down, art funding is among
first to be cut, which has been the case with the Alabama State
Council on the Arts, the state agency whose grants to Kentuck
and other arts organizations help bring life-enriching programs
to the public. Since 2008, ASCA's funding from the state has
been reduced by 42%. When times are hard we all have to share
the sacrifice, and now that times are slightly better, we need
to share the recovery as well. ASCA is asking for a restoration
of 12.5% of its funding. Please contact your state legislators
now--before the session starts on February 7--and let them know
you support this restoration of funding to ASCA. Click here to
contact your legislators, and thanks for your help!
