Kentuck Presents Best of Show award winner Debra Fritts

NORTHPORT - The Gallery at Kentuck presents Recent Works by Debra Fritts from June 3 through June 26, 2004.  Opening reception for the exhibit will be held June 3 from 5 to 9 pm. Fritts is the 2003 Kentuck Festival of the Arts Best of Show award winner and has been an exhibiting artist since 1999.

The Georgia ceramic artist creates one-of-a-kind, hand built terra-cotta sculptures with surfaces that are layered with found object marks and fired colorants. “They are inquisitive, honest and deep--they dwell on the mysteries and joys of daily living. The figures are marred with objects in order to leave marks that echo historical textures”, states Fritts.  Fritts received her BS degree in art education from the University of Tennessee.  Her work has been exhibited at The Lowe Gallery in Georgia and The American Craft Museum in New York.

A special reception and opportunity to meet Fritts will be held in conjunction with Art Night, June 3 from 5 to 9 p.m.  Art Night is the first Thursday of each month and celebrates the opening of all exhibits in downtown Northport galleries.  Kentuck studio artists also host their monthly Open Studios for visitors to see works in progress, meet the artists and see the actual work spaces where the artists apply materials, design, technique and equipment to the creative process.

Art Night is free and open to the public. Kentuck’s Gallery and Kentuck Gallery Shop is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For additional information call (205) 758-1257, or visit www.kentuck.org.
