introduction to stained glass

Learn the basics of Tiffany-style stained glass with J.K. Terrell! In this multi-day class, students will learn the basic elements of making a stained glass panel. This includes learning how to correctly use multiple tools plus how to foil, solder, & polish their project. This class will be presented in a fun, positive & noncritical learning environment. Students will complete this class with a finished panel to keep for themselves.

 

This class will meet on Wednesday nights for six weeks. There are currently two classes open for registration:

-April 10, 17, 24, May 1, 8, & 15

-July 10, 17, 24, 31, August 7 & 14

In this class, students will learn:

-the safety measures for stained glass

-how to cut & lay a basic pattern to begin their panel project

-how to apply that pattern to glass then next learn to cut the glass from the pattern

-how to apply and solder copper foil for their panel

-how to clean, polish, & present their project.

 

Most supplies are included, but students will need to provide (a specific list will be emailed to participants):

-Copper Foil

-Flux Soldering Paste

-Solder

-Glass

-Safety Glasses For safety, all students are required to wear eye protection and closed toe shoes.

You must be 18+ to attend. Space is limited to 6 attendees. The minimum for this class is 4 participants, and if the class does not meet the minimum, participants will be refunded. This workshop is non-refundable after the registration deadline passes.

If the class does not meet the minimum by the registration deadline and the workshop is cancelled, all participants will be refunded their registration fees.

meet the instructor

J.K. Terrell

​

J.K. has been a stained glass artist for over 10 years. He works in both Tiffany (copper foil/solder) & Lead Cane style. J.K.'s studio is in Tuscaloosa, AL. He creates both contemporary & classic/architectural styles. J.K. has been a featured artist for the Shelby Co. Arts Council Fine Folk Art Show 2018 as well as placing second in the SCAC Juried Show in 2017. He also participated in the 2018 & 2019 (Patrons Award) Kentuck Festival of the Arts as well as the 2019 Arts Alive Festival in Florence, Alabama. He has created pieces for the University of Alabama, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, in Birmingham, Shelby Co. Arts Council that are on permanent display & sold privately to patrons in 18 states. He also won First Place in the 2023 Kentuck Members Art Competition. J.K. is also somewhat proficient in woodworking & hand mills custom Walnut frames for his more high end pieces.
