kids clay: mug making

In this class, students will learn how to build 2-3 functional cups or mugs utilizing hand building techniques such as slabs, coiling, and pinching clay. Once pottery forms are built, students will learn how to make additions to their mugs using clay cutouts, stamps, and a variety of textures. Students will then be able to finish their designs using the colorful glazes provided.
This class is for kids ages 6-10. This class has a minimum of 4 students and a maximum of 8. If the class does not meet the minimum, participants will be refunded.

Meet the Instructor
Amy Smoot
​
Amy Smoot is from Carrollton, GA and currently resides in Tuscaloosa, AL. She received her BFA in ceramics from the University of West Georgia in 2015. While there, she was studio technician and research assistant in the ceramics area. In 2019 she received her MFA from The University of Alabama where she first began teaching ceramics as a graduate assistant. She instructed beginning ceramics, ceramics two, and figurative modeling at UA. Her practice consists of all types of ceramics techniques including mold-making, slip-casting, hand building, and wheel thrown pottery.
