exchange: alon wingard; a teer gallery exhibition recap

Alon F. Wingard’s exhibition is on display in Kentuck’s Teer Gallery from December 4, 2025 through January 30, 2026. A sculptor and custom woodworker based in New Orleans, Wingard creates work that bridges fine art and function, drawing from both material and memory. Originally from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, he earned his BFA in Sculpture from the University of Alabama in 2006 and grew up surrounded by makers. His grandmother was a portrait painter, and his father was a skilled woodworker, shaping his love for craftsmanship from an early age. Working with wood throughout his adult life, Wingard brings his sculptural training to both functional and artistic pieces.

“My practice examines how objects can carry memory and emotional weight. Working intuitively with wood and found materials from my own life."

"I reconstruct damaged or discarded pieces into new configurations that suggest defense, enclosure, and renewal. These sculptures operate as studies in balance—between organic and geometric order, vulnerability and protection. Through material reconstruction, I reclaim objects from my personal history, transforming pieces laden with distressing memories into new forms that hold different meaning for me and that I can appreciate on their own terms.
