Hayes Dobbins’ body of work, The Goddess Within, explores women’s connection to the divine feminine present in all of us. Through sculptural interpretations of ancient goddesses and dress forms full of flowing, dancing movement, she gives shape to this powerful energy. Dobbins draws on the strength of the warrior spirit in pieces inspired by Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt, and Minerva, the Roman goddess of intellect, art, and strategic warfare.

“We are living in a historical time where we need to lean into and embrace our feminine power” is a phrase that envelops Dobbins’ work.

Hayes Dobbins is an artist originally from Tuscaloosa, AL who works out of Kentuck’s Red Dog Potters Studio. She studied sculpture at the University of Montevallo earning her BFA in 2001. Dobbins has been creating art in one form or another her whole life with whatever materials were on hand. In 2007, she discovered wild, naturally occurring clay that she harvests and processes herself. The majority of her sculptures are made with this clay, predominantly from the Black Warrior River here in Tuscaloosa.
